Almira Tabaeva

Founder, PhD candidate, Arts-based Research Expert

Almira is a PhD candidate in Education at Nazarbayev University, specialising in Gender Studies. Originally from Uzbekistan, her research explores gender and the creative arts in Central Asia through postcolonial and decolonial perspectives. She is an executive member of the مقال  (maqaal) collective, a feminist research hub that connects women across Uzbekistan through oral history, family narratives, and collaborative cultural practices. Almira played a key role in developing Central Asia’s first culturally relevant university-level course on research ethics through the CARE project and actively contributes to regionally focused research publications. A member of the London Arts-Based Research Centre, she is paving the way for ABVR (Arts-Based Visual Research) methods and promoting their dissemination across the region, challenging dominant epistemologies and foregrounding indigenous feminist perspectives. 

Mariya Bekova

Founder, PhD сandidate, MAXQDA and NVivo Professional Trainer

Mariya is a PhD candidate in Education at Nazarbayev University, specialising in language planning and policy, with over ten years of experience in research and analysis. As the first and only certified trainer of MAXQDA and NVivo in Kazakhstan, and one of the few in Central Asia, she has been at the forefront of qualitative data analysis training in the region. She has already trained over 150 researchers in using MAXQDA for qualitative data analysis. Her skill set extends to quantitative research, natural language processing, bibliometric analysis, and mixed-method approaches. Her professional background includes developing the first university-level course on research ethics tailored to Central Asia under the CARE project at Nazarbayev University, as well as contributing to Kazakhstan’s inaugural comprehensive study on trilingual education and the implementation of STEM teacher development programs.
